With three vaccines available in the market today, we can finally begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. State and federal governments are focused on getting doses into the hands of pharmacies and providers, who are doing everything in their power to get shots in arms efficiently and ensure equitable access for patients. Over the last several months we’ve made massive progress in the national inoculation movement, with over 50% of the U.S. population having received one dose, and 41% percent fully vaccinated as of early June.

Please call your Texas State Senator by 9:00am Wednesday, May 19th, and urge their support for three bills - TX HB 1919, TX HB 2787, and TX HB 678. These critical bills will help to regulate Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to protect independent community pharmacists, and Texas patients, as well as increase access to lifesaving vaccines.

In late April, Congressmen Butterfield (D-NC) and McKinley (R-WV), along with 21 original & bipartisan cosponsors, reintroduced H.R. 2759, the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act. Senators Grassley (R-IA) and Casey (D-PA) also introduced S. 1362, the Senate companion bill in April. H.R. 2759/S. 1362 would allow Medicare to reimburse pharmacists who provide care to Medicare patients in underserved communities.

Last year, the federal government enacted legislation to provide emergency loans to help small businesses survive through the COVID-19 pandemic – These Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans were never intended to be taxed. However, existing Minnesota law requires businesses that received PPP loans to pay an additional 9.8% in taxes if the state legislature does not act.
